Welcome to QMS Residence!
What a wonderful opportunity your daughter is about to participate in here at Queen Margaret’s Residence; new friendships, new cultures to explore, new memories to create. Our staff will have your daughter’s room ready for her arrival, introduce her to other students, and be there as she learns to adapt to her new environment.
At Queen Margaret’s School we welcome students from around the world and are excited to share our community and culture. As a parent, leaving your daughter in the care of others can feel both exciting and apprehensive - you want to make sure that your daughter is well cared for. Our professional staff members are experienced in working with teenage girls and understand the challenges and successes ahead. We take on the responsibility of the daily role of ‘parent’ and make decisions that will support her personal growth. We want to keep her safe, help her mature and learn about her self as well as others, and to look back knowing that she has gained confidence in who she is and of what she is capable.
Our Residence is divided into 12 hallways, each named after a historic female role model, each with their own story - Carr for Emily Carr; Frank for Anne Frank; and Nightingale for Florence Nightingale for example. This is to remind us of our potential in our lives and how we can contribute to the world around us.
With each hallway we have a residence staff member who works specifically with the students in that hallway. Our senior student leaders in our Residence Assistance program, work along with our residence staff and meet weekly with students to chat about what is happening in residence, to address any concerns and to promote community building through activities, challenges and conversation.
We know that for you, listening to your daughter on the phone will be at times exciting but also difficult - you will miss her and she will miss you. However, we will be there to comfort her, to encourage her and to challenge her. When you see her again in June, and the confidence she exhibits, you will know that you made the right decision in sending her to Queen Margaret’s School.
