Founders' Day
Founders’ Day was established in 1986 to honour Miss Norah Creina Denny and Miss Dorothy Rachael Geoghegan, founders of Queen Margaret’s School in Duncan, BC. In 1921, these two extraordinary women dreamed of running a school together. Banks were not forthcoming but with a loan of $100 from Dorothy’s father, they purchased six acres with a small cottage, a large barn and many chicken houses. This is the land, at the end of Brownsey Avenue, on which the school stands today. The following September, QMS opened with 26 students, seven of them boarders.
Today, QMS has over 300 students enrolled, approximately 100 students boarding from 18 different countries and approximately 200 day program students. QMS offers Canada’s only on-campus Equestrian Riding Program with nearly 90 students in the Train To Ride, Train To Compete and Equine Studies programme.
A special thank you to Carol Hardy (nee McEwan Class '84) for being our Guest Speaker on Founders' Day, September 19th, 2011.
