Group Programs
Group ProgramsWith excellent boarding facilities and a supportive community for homestay placements, Queen Margaret’s School is perfectly equipped to accommodate coeducational and gender specific school groups of international students from 12 to 60 students in size. Groups can attend a program as short as one week or as long as eight weeks and the content of the program can be customized to meet the needs and requirements of the group.
Duncan, British Columbia, is located in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island – the furthest point west in Canada. Just two hours from Vancouver by ferry and one hour from Victoria by bus, car or train, Duncan enjoys the best climate in Canada. The First Nations people, who were the first to live in this valley, appropriately named it Quw’utsun or the “warm land”. The city and surrounding area offer Summer Program students the best possible environment to experience “Canada” at its fullest.
Boarding programs provide rooms with two students sharing, while homestay programs provide a private room in a home with a Canadian family. Groups with a sufficient number of participants can request a closed program where only their school will be on campus during the program. In cases of smaller enrollment groups, closed classes for ESL classes can be offered with a closed or integrated program of activities. Many groups look for integration with Canadian and international students from a different country which can also be arranged.
While Summer Programs for groups are always designed to meet the specific requirements and needs of each group, most programs include English as a Second Language instruction in the morning with activities, tours, sports and field trips to attractions on Vancouver Island in the afternoon. All programs of two weeks or more include full day field trips to Vancouver and Victoria.
Vancouver, located just two hours from Duncan by ferry, is Canada’s third largest city. Proudly hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics, Vancouver offers world class shopping at Metrotown and Robson Street. Stanley Park, spectacularly located in the centre of Vancouver, provides a welcome oasis of natural beauty and serenity in the midst of a vibrant city.
Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia and the province’s capital. Known throughout the world for it’s old world charm, visitors can see the historic Empress Hotel, Parliament Buildings, China Town, or stroll along the Inner Harbour Walkway and visit the famous, Butchart Gardens. Daily Whale Watching Tours are another exciting attraction and for those seeking a quieter adventure, there is always the interesting exhibits of the Royal B.C. Museum with IMAX Theatre.
Duncan and the surrounding Vancouver Island area provide Summer Program students with a bounty of outdoor experiences. The activities in the Queen Margaret’s Summer Program are designed to give students as much outdoor activity as they like. Activities such as hiking, kayaking and camping can be included in programs if requested. The warm, long summer days invite students to go outdoors and enjoy the abundance of nature available to them.
