Ministry of Education Requirements
The Ministry of Education requirement for Grades 11 & 12 are described in terms of credits. A full year course generally earns four credits, although there are some exceptions to this. In Grades 11 & 12, each student must earn 28 credits of "Foundation Studies" and 24 credits of "Selected Studies", of which at least 10 credits must be earned in Grade 12 and a maximum of eight credits may be earned through locally developed courses.

Queen Margaret's School Graduation Program
Graduates of QMS will earn a minimum of 80 credits, as required by the Ministry of Education, during the Grade 10 through 12 years. Most of our students will earn additional credits in academic, applied skills, and fine arts courses, or through equivalency and/or correspondence courses. The typical Queen Margaret's Student graduates with over 100 credits.

In addition to the requirements set out by the Ministry of Education, QMS requires the following criteria be met:

University Entrance Requirements within Canada
University requirements may change from year to year. The best way to ensure that you understand the requirements of a specific university for a specific program is to contact the admissions office of that university and talk to an advisor.

Queen Margaret's School Students are assisted with TOEFL/IELTS/SAT preparation & registration through our Student Support Services.

Language Proficiency Index (LPI)
The LPI test is used by British Columbia universities to determine students’ proficiency in English. Students who earn a mark of “A” in English 12 do not have to take the LPI exam. Those who expect or know that they will not earn an “A” in English 12 should take the LPI exam, which will be offered at the school during the Spring term, or through The University of British Columbia. The LPI test booklet and study guides are available from the UBC bookstore or from the English 12 teacher.

American Universities and Colleges
Most universities and colleges in the United States require a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score. The SAT is a program of standardized tests administered by the College Board in the United States in order to aid American colleges and universities in their placement of students. It is recommended that students who are interested in attending university or college in the USA write the PSAT, the practice test for the SAT, that is offered in October of each school year. Students may register for this through the Academic Advisor.

The SAT may be written in March or April of the Grade 11 year. The last opportunity for Grade 12 students to write the SAT is in November of their Grade 12 year. Students may register for this through the Academic Advisor.

In addition to SAT results, the Student Support Services team will assist students in the research process for colleges and universities that they are interested in attending. This includes other post-secondary institutions around the world such as Hong Kong, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Students, parents and the Academic Advisor will work together to determine the best options for each individual student. However, throughout this process, it will be stressed that a great deal of responsibility lies with the student.
