Education Programs
All curricular programs aim to develop a desire in students to reach their fullest capability in a variety of subjects. QMS teachers encourage each student to set high standards as we believe that as self-confidence and self-discipline evolve, students gradually realize and attain their goals.
Queen Margaret's School fosters an environment where students strive to achieve their best at all times. Interesting and challenging programs will be offered to all students, but patience, understanding, and support are also available to those students who need extra time to help build their confidence, self-esteem, and aptitude.
A demanding curriculum and the expectation of self-reliance and initiative in the classroom prepare students for the world of post secondary education.
At QMS we not only deliver the provincial curriculum, but also provide many learning opportunities that are not offered in most public schools. We provide French instruction from Kindergarten to Grade 7/8, Japanese from K - Grade 4, and have music specialists who provide an extensive and enriched music program for all of our Junior School students. We provide instruction in Information Technology where students learn about computers, how to use a wide variety of software programs, and about the proper, safe and ethical use of the Internet. We offer art instruction, Global Studies classes and have a dedicated Junior Atheltic Director who provides our young students with a cross sampling of sports. We also provide an extensive Outdoor Education program that extends from the Kindergarten year on to Grade 12.
The provincial curriculum is organized into two categories at the elementary level: The Primary Program (Kindergarten to Grade 3) and the Intermediate Program (Grades Four to Seven). We do the same at Queen Margaret's School, but further distinguish the Grade 7 program as an important transitional year between the Junior and Senior School years. ![]()
Our Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program for three and four-year-olds (Preschool and Junior Kindergarten) is governed by the Ministry of Health and regularly inspected to ensure we meet licensing standards set out by the Province of British Columbia. Our daily capacity for each of the two age specific programs is 16 children. This program is operated seperately from our QMS K-12 programs.
