Co-Ed Junior School (Preschool - Grade 7)

Welcome to Queen Margaret’s School. As the Junior School Principal, it is my good fortune and honour to work with dedicated and inspiring teachers who offer a host of exciting learning opportunities to our elementary students. We are proud of our program of enriched curricula with specialist teachers at all grade levels, extensive extra-curricular opportunities, character-building service initiatives, opportunities for self-discovery and self-expression through the Fine Arts, an equestrian centre ranked as the best in Canada, and a beautiful campus on 28 park-like acres.

The Junior School enrols approximately 150 Preschool/Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7 girls and boys, while the Senior School enrols another 150 girls. Through our programs and teachers, we ensure that your child receives the attention and support required to become a capable, confident, self-motivated, and responsible citizen who possesses a lifelong joy of learning. Clear expectations for behaviour in and out of the classroom have enabled us to create an environment where students learn and play knowing they are safe and respected.

QMS is much more than just an academic institution. Over our 90 year history we have developed a well-rounded philosophy of education which focuses on development of the ‘whole child’. Life at QMS reflects the values inherent in the four pillars of Academics, Arts, Athletics and Service.

At QMS we bring the BC Ministry of Education curriculum alive in our classrooms, but we do not stop there. We provide more teaching hours than required by the Ministry, we begin our second language program five years earlier than the Ministry requires and we provide exposure to Japanese in addition to French.

QMS has always embraced the Fine Arts. Choir classes start in the primary grades and band or instrumental music is introduced in Grade 4. A visual arts specialist teacher instructs Grade 4 to 7 students in the specially equipped Art Studio.

We provide a developmentally appropriate extra-curricular athletic program which provides opportunities for students to develop skills while building a sense of team loyalty and a cooperative attitude. Our outdoor education program is another way we focus on building self-confidence and cooperation. Many students also choose to extend their physical activities to include horse riding in our equestrian program.

Both students and teachers participate in various community service activities including local, national and global efforts. Through these service activities we hope to foster the realization that we are part of a larger global community and can make the world a better place. Service is a fundamental part of all that we do at QMS.

Throughout our 90 year history, the QMS community has included learners, educators, caregivers and friends. From its inception, community members have worked together to reach common goals. We continue to embrace this attitude of cooperation and teamwork as we strive to provide an education for your children which is engaging, challenging and supportive. As the Junior School Principal, I look forward to working alongside you and your child this coming year.

I hope you find our website informative and expressive of the wonderful community of learning that has evolved here at Queen Margaret’s School.

Sincerely,
